Thoughts by Rn Tagore
Every difficulty slurred over will be a ghost to disturb your repose later on.
Rabindranath TagoreSeashore
On the seashore of endless worlds children meet.
The infinite sky is motionless overhead
and the restless water is boisterous.
On the seashore of endless worlds
the children meet with shouts and dances.
They build their houses with sand
and they play with empty shells.
With withered leaves they weave their boats
and smilingly float them on the vast deep.
Children have their play on the seashore of worlds.
They know not how to swim, they know not how to cast nets.
Pearl fishers dive for pearls, merchants sail in their ships,
while children gather pebbles and scatter them again.
They seek not for hidden treasures, they know not how to cast nets.
The sea surges up with laughter
and pale gleams the smile of the sea beach.
Death-dealing waves sing meaningless ballads to the children,
even like a mother while rocking her baby's cradle.
The sea plays with children,
and pale gleams the smile of the sea beach.
On the seashore of endless worlds children meet.
Tempest roams in the pathless sky,
ships get wrecked in the trackless water,
death is abroad and children play.
On the seashore of endless worlds is the
great meeting of children.
Old And New
Thou hast made me known to friends whom I knew not.
Thou hast given me seats in homes not my own.
Thou hast brought the distant near and made a brother of the stranger.
I am uneasy at heart when I have to leave my accustomed shelter;
I forget that there abides the old in the new,
and that there also thou abidest.
Through birth and death, in this world or in others,
wherever thou leadest me it is thou, the same,
the one companion of my endless life
who ever linkest my heart with bonds of joy to the unfamiliar.
When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut.
Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose
the bliss of the touch of the one
in the play of many.
God finds himself by creating.
Rabindranath TagoreIn the night we stumble over things and become acutely conscious of their separateness, but the day reveals the unity which embraces them. And the man whose inner vision is bathed in consciousness at once realizes the spiritual unity which reigns over all racial differences, and his mind no longer stumbles over individual facts, accepting them as final. He realizes that peace is an inner harmony and not an outer adjustment, that beauty carries the assurance of our relationship to reality, which waits for its perfection in the response of our love.
Rabindranath TagoreA mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it.
Rabindranath TagoreThe tendency in modern civilization is to make the world uniform... Let the mind be universal. The individual should not be sacrificed.
Rabindranath TagoreHe is neither manifest nor hidden, He is neither revealed nor unrevealed: there are no words to tell that which He is. He is without form, without quality, without decay.
Rabindranath TagoreDeath is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.
Rabindranath TagoreNever be afraid of the moments - thus sings the voice of the ever-lasting.
Rabindranath TagoreThe meaning of our self is not to be found in its separateness from God and others, but in the ceaseless realization of yoga, of union.
Rabindranath TagoreThis is the ultimate end of man, to find the One which is in him; which is his truth, which is his soul; the key with which he opens the gate of the spiritual life, the heavenly kingdom.
Rabindranath TagorePraise shames me, for I secretly beg for it.
Rabindranath TagoreThose who own much have much to fear
Rabindranath TagoreScience urges us to occupy by our mind the immensity of the knowable world; our spiritual teacher enjoins us to comprehend by our soul the infinite spirit which is in the depth of the moving and changing facts of the world; the urging of our artistic nature is to realize the manifestation of personality in the world of appearance, the reality of existence which is in harmony with the real within us. Where this harmony is not deeply felt, there we are aliens and perpetually homesick. For man by nature is an artist; he never receives passively and accurately in his mind a physical representation of things around him.
Rabindranath TagoreAge considers; youth ventures.
Rabindranath TagoreYour idol is shattered in the dust to prove that God's dust is greater than your idol.
Rabindranath TagoreMen are cruel, but Man is kind.
Rabindranath TagoreThe newer people, of this modern age, are more eager to amass than to realize.
Rabindranath TagoreHe who wants to do good knocks at the gate; he who loves finds the gate open.
